Nokia launches two new industrial phones

Who said Nokia isn’t making a comeback in smartphones? The company has just launched two rugged phones targeting industries such as oil, where workers need a sturdy smartphone. It seems that we won’t be seeing an industrial version of the Nokia XR21 as we did with the Nokia XR20.

The announcement introduced two phones: the Nokia HHRA501x and the Nokia IS540.1. Nokia has partnered with the German company i.safe MOBILE GmbH for this venture. These new phones are classified as ‘EX,’ and they all share the same technical platform. They’ve undergone rigorous testing and have been approved to meet the connectivity requirements of industries like oil, gas, mining, and chemicals.

According to Nokia, you can safely use these phones in locations with explosion risks, such as ATEX Zone 1, or in areas where such risks are less likely, like ATEX Zone 2. Nokia also states that these phones support all the necessary frequency bands and have obtained all the required certificates, making them suitable for use in companies worldwide.

While the official statement didn’t provide many details, some specs are available for the Nokia IS540.1. This phone features a 6-inch screen protected by Gorilla Glass 3. Under the hood, it’s equipped with the dual-core QCM6490 chip developed by Qualcomm. Although the chip might not sound familiar, it offers performance similar to the Snapdragon 778. The Nokia IS540.1 comes with 8 gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of internal storage.

You’ll find ample storage for your images since it boasts a 48-megapixel rear camera with autofocus. On the front, there’s a 5-megapixel camera. Powering the device is a 4400 mAh removable battery. Unfortunately, the price information is not yet available.

The Nokia IS540.1 looks like a nice rugged device, an improved version of the Nokia 800 Tough :). But that new logo though…
