Nokia holds a 5G speed record in Finland

The 5G networks might be demanding to secure good coverage, but it will enable us to gain higher speeds, thus enabling new connected technologies to be more functional and usable. Back in May 2020, Nokia was holding a record for the world’s fastest 5G speeds. They tested that by using the Over-the-Air (OTA) network in Dallas, Texas, and managed to achieve a speed of 4.7 Gbps.
Now, Nokia announced achieving almost double of the previously mentioned speeds in collaboration with Finnish Elisa carrier and Qualcomm. They managed to hit speeds up to 8Gbps on a commercial network on the mmWave spectrum.
The base station tested consists of two Nokia AirScale radios, each using 800 MHz of commercial millimeter-wave 5G spectrum at 26 GHz. The signal was tested on two 5G smartphone form factor test devices powered by a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X55 5G Modem-RF System featuring second-generation Qualcomm® QTM525 mmWave antenna modules. Each device reached 4 Gbps peak speeds from the base station.

These 5G network speeds will be supporting low-latency, high-bandwidth services, which are ideal for high-speed video downloads and VR/AR.
