Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra and Pro to Feature Major Camera Layout Redesign
The contours of Samsung’s next generation of flagship smartphones are coming into sharp focus. Thanks to newly leaked protective case images from prominent industry tipster Ice Universe, we now have a clear look at the physical footprint of the upcoming Galaxy S27 series.
Slated for a first-quarter release in 2027, the lineup appears to be splitting its design philosophy in two, introducing a brand-new “Pro” model aimed at users who crave top-tier performance without the cumbersome footprint of the Ultra.
A Tale of Two Camera Designs
According to the leaked case designs, the standard Galaxy S27 and S27+ will play it safe, retaining the familiar vertically stacked, individual camera cutouts that have defined Samsung’s aesthetic for the past few years.
However, the premium tier is undergoing a massive facelift. Both the Galaxy S27 Pro and the S27 Ultra are adopting a large, horizontal camera matrix positioned across the top rear of the device. This marks a definitive departure from Samsung’s long-standing vertical layout.
Industry analysts suggest this horizontal configuration frees up vital internal chassis space, allowing for superior thermal cooling systems and physically larger image sensors. Despite this newly available space, current rumors indicate that massive sensor upgrades might be limited, with the most notable addition being a new 4x telephoto lens exclusive to the Ultra.
Enter the Galaxy S27 Pro
The most significant shakeup to Samsung’s 2027 roster is the introduction of the Galaxy S27 Pro. This device is positioned as a bridge between the standard S-series and the monolithic Ultra.
Targeting consumers who want flagship photography in a pocketable size, the S27 Pro is essentially a compact Ultra minus the S Pen stylus. It is expected to feature a 6.4- to 6.6-inch display while inheriting the formidable main and ultrawide camera hardware of its larger sibling.
Under the Hood: 2nm Silicon and Magnetic Charging
The entire Galaxy S27 family is expected to be powered by next-generation 2nm processors. Depending on the global region, the devices will pack either Samsung’s in-house Exynos 2700 or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, manufactured by TSMC.
Other notable hardware rumors point to the adoption of Qi2 magnetic wireless charging—bringing a MagSafe-like experience to the Galaxy lineup—and the potential introduction of BOE as a primary OLED panel supplier for the series.
