Is the Nokia Brand Open for Licensing Again? Is There Still Hope for a Comeback?

The licensing agreement between Nokia and HMD Global is approaching its official end, marking a new chapter for both companies. HMD has already begun building its own brand identity, focusing on security, sustainability, and repairability. Nokia, on the other hand, continues to concentrate on network infrastructure and software—but crucially, it still runs an active brand licensing program.

For fans of Nokia, this leaves a glimmer of hope. A recent comment by Nokia’s Community Manager reignited that optimism. When asked whether Nokia is still open to licensing deals for mobile phones now that HMD is no longer the exclusive brand partner, the response was clear: if you’re a large-scale mobile manufacturer interested in exploring collaboration opportunities, Nokia is open to discussions.

While this doesn’t confirm that a new deal is in the works, it does signal that the door is open. After two licensing attempts—first with Microsoft and then with HMD—many wonder if a third player could finally revive the Nokia phone brand with the strength and innovation it once had.

Will someone step up? Only time will tell. But if something’s going to happen, we might start seeing movement in the next six months.
