Qualcomm launches Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 – a new chip for midrange phones
|Qualcomm has launched a new chipset for midrange phones – Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. It is made on TSMC’s N4P 4nm process and consists of one Cortex-X4 main core clocked at up to 3.2 GHz, three Cortex-A720 cores at 3.0 GHz, 2x Cortex-A720 cores at 2.8 GHz and 2x Cortex-A720 cores at 2.0 GHz. According to Qualcomm, the new CPU is 31% faster than its predecessor Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. At the same time, it consumes 39% less power. Graphics are handled by the Adreno 825 GPU, which delivers 49% better performance compared to its predecessor.
The improved Hexagon NPU delivers 44% better performance of AI tasks on the device, according to Qualcomm, with the addition of an 18-bit triple ISP (image processing processor) that supports up to 320MP camera sensors and 4K60fps HDR video recording.
The new chipset comes with an integrated Snapdragon X75 5G modem, which supports download speeds of 4.2 Gbps. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity standards are also supported.
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 supports UFS 4.0 storage, LPDDR5X RAM, and USB 3.1 Gen 2 connectivity. It also gets Qualcomm’s XPAN connectivity, which uses Wi-Fi to transmit audio.
