HMD Announces Silicone Cases for Skyline

The HMD Skyline is a beautifully crafted phone that brings back a touch of the Nokia Lumia 925/930 design. The aluminum frame is what initially stands out, giving the device a gorgeous look. However, the frame also makes it a bit slippery, and its pointed edges are not the most comfortable.

In the past few weeks of using this phone as my daily driver, it slipped out of my pocket and hit the floor, leaving a nasty scratch on the top corner. I also noticed that the paint chips off easily, likely due to how the frame is painted. While I try not to keep the phone with keys or coins, sometimes it’s unavoidable, and that’s when a protective cover becomes handy.

HMD has finally released a protective cover for the HMD Skyline in (neon) pink, (topaz) blue, and (twisted) black. The cover is made of 100% recycled silicone and plastic, which should improve grip. It also features a 50% recycled microfiber lining to further protect the Skyline and contains magnets for Qi2-compatible charging. The cover should be available soon at the online store.

Luke Staunton posted over at twitter the case and said that the colour is more magenta shade than the device.

By the way, an IP68 waterproof rugged case should also be available for the HMD Skyline. According to a retailer, the case should cost around 70 euros. This case might alleviate concerns about the Skyline’s IP52 rating, although it will detract from the phone’s aesthetics. However, upon closer inspection, the case doesn’t seem to be made for the Skyline, as the hole for the LED is in the wrong position. It might actually be intended for another HMD device.
