The Nokia Lumia 920 Makes a Comeback… Sort Of
|The internet recently received several renders of what is believed to be HMD’s new midranger, the Skyline. The device is shown in yellow and has a design that resembles the Nokia Lumia 920. This suggests that the iconic device announced back in 2012 with an OIS camera, is making a comeback.
HMD’s head of design, Raun Forsyth, expressed his excitement about working on new HMD devices. After seeing the supposed Skyline renders, it is clear what he was probably referring to. This device is expected to bring back the Fabula design, first introduced with the iconic Nokia N9. One of the features of this design was its bright colours, which the Skyline will also utilize.
Spec-wise, the Skyline is rumoured to feature a high-resolution display, a robust processor, and an improved camera system, making it a strong contender in the midrange market. The inclusion of modern features combined with a nostalgic design could attract both old fans of Nokia and new users looking for a stylish and functional device.
If Tomcat turns out to be Skyline, these could be the specs (link to the original post):
- AMOLED FHD+ 120Hz, PureDisplay HDR10+
- SD 7s Gen 2 SoC 4nm
- 108MP OIS + 8MP + 2MP / 32MP
- 8GB, 12GB + 256GB
- Android 14
- 4,900mAh + 33W
- IP67, BT 5.2, NFC, FPS on Display, Stereo Speakers, PureView, etc.
- HMD Tomcat (Codename) “Blue” 8/256GB ≈ €400 12/256GB ≈ €440
I hope the renders are close to the final device, as it wouldn’t look good if HMD repeats the same mistake (remember the Pulse renders?). A device like this would be a fitting tribute to Nokia and its legendary Lumia 920. This move is part of HMD’s broader strategy to revive iconic designs and capitalize on nostalgia while offering contemporary technology.
