HMD is set to launch its first phone on April 24
|Finnish retailer Gigantti made the announcement about HMD’s debut phone, the HMD Pulse, before the official unveiling by the company itself. The HMD Pulse Pro is slated to hit the shelves of various retailers globally, with the leaked Gigantti webpage indicating an expected launch date of April 24.
The hardware specifications of HMD’s entry-level smartphone are already public knowledge. The Pulse Pro is poised to be available for purchase with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory, priced at 179 euros, albeit only in black for now.
The device weighs in at 196 grams, slightly on the heavier side, but boasts an IP52 rating, suggesting resistance to splashes of water. Additionally, HMD is introducing quick repairability, a concept that debuted with the Nokia G22, providing reassurance in case of mishaps.
While it remains uncertain whether iFixit will offer spare parts such as displays, charging ports, batteries, and back covers, it’s plausible that HMD’s partnership with iFixit will extend to its branded phones.
The design of the phone is known thanks to the previous leaks. The product listing revealed the rest of the specs. It indicates that the phone will feature a 6.56-inch IPS LCD display panel with HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. Powering the device is the Unisoc T606 processor with eight cores, capable of reaching a maximum frequency of 1.6 GHz. While this processor, commonly used in many Nokia-branded phones and tablets, supports only 4G connectivity, it suffices for an entry-level phone.
The HMD Pulse Pro will come equipped with 6GB of RAM, with support for 6GB of virtual RAM as well. Its internal storage of 128GB can be expanded via a microSD memory card up to 256GB. The device houses a 5000mAh battery, providing an estimated usage time of 59 hours on a single charge, and charges via USB-C, now a standard in the EU.
For photography enthusiasts, HMD offers a dual-camera setup, featuring a 50MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture and a 2MP depth camera for enhanced portrait photography. The main camera boasts AI HDR functionality and skin tone optimization.
While Gigantti’s announcement does not specify the Android version, Geekbench tests reveal that the HMD Pulse Pro will ship with Android 14 out of the box. HMD guarantees two years of OS updates and three years of security patches.
