Huawei outperforms Nokia and Ericsson
|Huawei, the Chinese equipment vendor, has outperformed its Nordic competitors, Ericsson and Nokia, in the 5G market, despite facing US sanctions. Huawei has a larger market share and even managed to have higher R&D spend compared to its rivals.
The company’s networks unit, known as the ICT infrastructure business, reported a 2.3% increase in revenues last year, while Nokia’s and Ericsson’s revenues declined.
Huawei’s position in the 5G space is firmly entrenched, and its equipment is widely used in networks globally, making it a significant player in the global telecom industry.
The US-led effort against Huawei has opened opportunities for Nokia and Ericsson to regain some market share. However, Huawei’s contracts with national governments generally cover a larger scope of services and equipment, giving it more market power.
