Nokia Sentry tested with Android 14

Sentry is the codename for the Nokia XR21, the latest rugged smartphone made by HMD. It’s currently the only device manufactured in the former Nokia factory in Hungary. Despite all devices deserving equal treatment, the XR21 stands out as the most expensive and is produced in the EU to avoid potential tampering in “untrustworthy” assembly lines in the Far East.

Therefore, it should receive updates before other devices. However, HMD surprisingly released the latest OS update first for the Nokia G42, which is one of the few Nokia devices still available in the market.

Nevertheless, the XR series has yet to appear on Geekbench with the A14 chip tested on them, leaving many wondering if and when these devices will receive the major OS update. HMD assured fans on Discord that the update is forthcoming, and the listing of the HMD Sentry with Android 14 on Geekbench confirms this.

The score achieved by the Nokia XR21, or Sentry, is comparable to that achieved with Android 13. This suggests that the phone’s performance won’t change significantly with the new version of Android.

Additionally, if you own a Nokia G21, there is a February security patch available for the device. The update is relatively small, just 20.86 MB, so installation will be quick.
