HMD’s TA-1590 gets FCC certified

HMD is slowly getting ready to announce its own phone brand, but the development process is challenging. Therefore, the best approach to filling the gap in devices needed in the global market is to redesign or at least modernize the phones HMD has previously developed. One such phone could be the TA-1590, also known as TA-159N (likely for the US market), which has just received certification from the FCC.

This phone will offer essential connectivity features (GSM, WCDMA, LTE, WiFi, and Bluetooth), which are standard in basic smartphones. Upon delving into the certificate documents, it is evident that the TA-1590 smartphone will feature 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The 4000mAh battery will be charged with a 10W charger. At the back, there will be a dual-camera module with a 13MP main sensor accompanied by a 2MP depth camera. On the front, there will be a 5MP front camera, and the screen will have a 20.1:9 aspect ratio with an HD resolution of 1612×720 pixels.

The label location diagram suggests that the TA-1590 could resemble something like the Nokia C210, a basic smartphone released by HMD in the US in August 2013. That phone featured a good chipset for its price range (Qualcomm SM6115 Snapdragon 662 (11 nm)), and it would be beneficial for HMD to equip the TA-1590 with a newer Qualcomm processor of a similar range.

Nevertheless, this certification indicates that HMD is preparing for a launch. While I anticipated a faster pace, perhaps it is better to proceed cautiously and ensure the devices are readily available in stores upon announcement.

The funny story is that TA-1592 is actually going to be the rebranded Nokia XR21 🙂
