Nokia signs 5G patent license agreement with Honor

In recent years, some Chinese manufacturers like Vivo and Oppo, have gone through difficult times in the disputes with Nokia over patent infringements. We’ve witnessed that many of them have lost access to the largest EU market, i.e. Germany, due to the court decisions in favor of Nokia.

Now, the fast-growing brand Honor seems to have a slightly different approach, since it expressed the willingness to cooperate. In other words, Honor is ready to pay royalties for Nokia patents used on their phones, apparently to avoid sales bans like Oppo and Vivo.

This is Nokia’s fourth major smartphone agreement, concluded in the past year. Nokia’s report states that its “industry-leading patent portfolio” is composed of “around 20,000 patent families, including over 6,000 patent families declared essential to 5G”.
