In this episode of Nostalgia, we cover an iconic device that managed to bring 3x Optical Zoom into a smartphone, the Nokia N93i from 2007. The original N93 was also a pretty cool device, but received plenty of feedback regarding its weight and size, which made it uncomfortable to use with one hand. So the N93i came along to fix some of those complaints while adding a level of flair worthy of its premium status. You can check out the video below:
The mirror finish, silver and plum contrast, and the brushed aluminum t9 keypad… this thing was stunning. A status symbol for 2007. Sadly though as a package, it was far inferior to the Nokia N95 back then, which packed most of the same multimedia features and a better camera (without optical zoom) in a more compact package. I’m still a fan of crazy experiments, which is why I look back at the N93i a lot more fondly than the objectively better product, the N95.
