In this episode of nostalgia, we host a device that changed the mobile photography landscape forever, the iconic Nokia 808 PureView. What we consider the norm these days with big sensors utilizing pixel binning technology, the Nokia 808’s 41 megapixel sensor paved the way for back in 2012. The 808 PureView was an insane idea made into reality. It made no business sense to release this when Symbian was already announced dead by Nokia, and yet someone in there pushed for it to see the light of day. Sure, the device was also deeply flawed, but it represented a huge leap in tech we barely see these days. It deserves attention because it represents the spirit of innovation that used to be alive and kicking in Nokia back in the day; a spirit we need to see a lot more of from HMD global if they want to stand a chance in surviving a very competitive and cut-throat mobile market filled with good (and in a way uninspiring) devices across multiple price ranges.
