Nokia N9 turns 10 | Why it was so special (Video)
|On the 21st of June 2011, almost exactly 10 years ago, the Nokia N9 was announced. Few people remember that event, but let me tell you this – I think it was one of the greatest, most genuine presentations for a tech product maybe ever, thanks to the incredible passion displayed by Marco Ahtisaari, executive vice president of design for Nokia back then. At the time, Nokia officially announced that they will be adopting Windows Phone as the only platform of choice, which made the N9’s presentation even more bitter-sweet since the fate of its operating system, MeeGo Harmattan, was carved in stone.
So to honor one of the most innovative and iconic devices, I’ve created this video unboxing experience which goes over most of the little details that made the N9 so memorable. You can check it out below:

If you want to see that glorious presentation by Marko Ahtisaari, you can watch it in the video below:

I think this presentation is a perfect example of what we are currently missing in new Nokia Mobile announcements. It’s the little things that make a device stand out, which is why I’m a huge fan of product designers talking passionately about their influence, attention to details, and design philosophy, rather than marketing people telling us what they think is trendy. Especially considering the people who generally watch these presentation events are the most hardcore and passionate of fans. Product videos can be aimed at a broader audience.
If you are enjoying the nostalgic content, let me know which iconic Nokia device you would like detailed in a video, and I will try my best to get it featured on Nokiamob 🙂
