Nokia Mobile ranked 1st in 4G feature phone sales in China in 2020

China was the first country that Nokia Mobile chose to begin its operation in 2017. The initial response to the Nokia brand’s comeback in the country was as overwhelming as it was in any other place. However, the dynamics of the smartphone market matured a lot in the following years, and slowly Nokia Mobile’s wheels started coming off. The overall journey was quite juxtaposed to what Nokia Mobile would have expected. The things came to a point where Nokia Mobile pulled the plug and stopped launching smartphones in China. Even the support for the existing devices went for a toss.

It was the feature phones that kept Nokia Mobile alive in China. Now it looks like the feature phones not only contributed to the survival, but the 4G feature phones also generated good sales number in 2020. On its official Weibo account, Nokia Mobile posted a picture that had several announcements mentioned on it.

The main one is that Nokia Mobile ranked number one in terms of 4G feature phone sales volume in China in 2020. Last year in China, Nokia Mobile launched the Nokia 220 4G in April, Nokia 215 4G and 225 4G in October, and Nokia 6300 4G and 8000 4G in December. Prior to these devices, the other 4G feature phones, i.e., Nokia 2720 Flip, 800 Tough, 8110 4G, and 3310 4G were also available. So all these devices brought some good news for Nokia Mobile China to start 2021 on a positive note.

The second announcement is that starting from this year, Nokia feature phones in China will come with the support of Alipay, a third-party online payment platform.

Now, coming to the smartphones. After more than a year-long hiatus, Nokia Mobile made a comeback in the smartphone market in China with the Nokia C3 in August 2020, and then launched the Nokia C1 Plus in the last month. Interestingly, the caption on the post reads that in 2021, Nokia Mobile will strive to bring more smart products, probably both smart feature phones and smartphones, in the country. Possibly all this time, Nokia Mobile went back to the drawing board to prepare for a much stronger comeback in the country with more mainstream devices, most probably the 5G smartphones, since the Nokia 8.3 5G was also certified by CQC (China Quality Certification) center.

Anyways, exciting times are ahead for Nokia Mobile, and I hope that it will get exciting for us as well.
