New Snapdragon 480 with 5G support to come in a Nokia smartphone in the coming months

Qualcomm today announced a new chipset from the Snapdragon 400 series that is popular on budget devices. With the new Snapdragon 480, Qualcomm is brining 5G support to lower price points.

The integrated Snapdragon X51 modem provides 5G capabilities to Snapdragon 480 and it is great that the budget-oriented Snapdragon 480 can support mmWave, as well as sub-6GHz frequencies. Compared to Snapdragon 460, that we can find in the Nokia 3.4 for example, the new Snapdragon 480 brings 100% improvement in performance and 70% improvement in AI tasks.

The new budget SoC is made in the 8nm process, supports WiFi6, Bluetooth 5.1, 120Hz displays and has a triple ISP for photography, that allows all at once capture of HD video from three cameras.

Nokia Mobile’s Head of Product Marketing Adam Ferguson commented the new announcement from Qualcomm by reiterating that democratising technology is at the heart of what Nokia Mobile does and that the company is excited for the opportunity of bringing 5G to even lower price points.

In the press release, Qualcomm mentioned Nokia Mobile as one of the partners that should have a device with Snapdragon 480 available on the market in the coming months.
