Nokia 5.4 announced officially
|Rarely do we see two new models being announced in the same year. That almost happened with the Nokia 2.2 and Nokia 2.3, which were announced with a gap of just 6 months. Nokia Mobile did better now and increased the time interval bit, but managed to announce two Nokia 5 models in a single year, which makes 2020 the year of Nokia 5.
Even though many expected Nokia 6 or 7, Nokia 5.4 is the new affordable smartphone that will be trying to avoid the demographic and just aim for the smartphone users that need a trusty everyday companion.
Nokia 5.4 is a combination of Nokia 3.4 and Nokia 8.3 5G since the phone is combining the same 6.39-inch HD+ punch hole LCD that Nokia 3.4 is having. The image stabilization, OZO spatial audio, wind noise cancellation, and a Cinema mode are parts borrowed from a much expensive Nokia 8.3 5G. The body design resembles the Nokia 3.4 design, which is nice, and the back cover is coming in two beautiful color choices with an interesting texture that Nokia 3.4 also has.
The forte of this phone is a 48 MP Quad pixel main camera sensor, which lacks ZEISS branding but is still a nice improvement compared to the previous model. The rest of the camera module stayed the same with a 5MP UltraWide camera, 2 MP depth, and a useless 2 MP macro cam. The selfie cam is also bumped up from 8 MP to 16 MP, which makes the phone more usable for portrait selfies.
Nokia Mobile did a nice gesture of placing image stabilization, OZO spatial audio, wind noise cancellation in this model, as well as the Cinema mode for shooting 21:9 videos in 24 FPS and 60 FPS too. Also, the camera shutter is taken to 0 thanks to some processing optimizations done by Qualcomm.
There we come to the most questionable hardware part, Qualcomm Snapdragon 662, which is being used for this smartphone. Many will think that this is a downgrade since Nokia 5.3 has SD 665, and that might be true. We are seeing basically the same processor done in 11 nm, that has the same Adreno 610 GPU but is better optimized for power consumption, has better 3rd gen AI processing, lacks a bit of frequency, but does score better in Antutu and other benchmark tests. The only problem for me right now is that Nokia 5.4 doesn’t support WiFi 5GHz spectrum, has older BT 4.2, and is still coming with 10W charging. The battery stayed the same, but 4000 mAh will do you just fine.

While Nokia 5.4 and 3.4 might look similar in shape, Nokia Mobile did use different color pallet which is obviously inspired by the Finnish polar night. Nokia 5.4 will be available in Polar Night or dark blue in December and Dusk or pink color in January.
The phone should be available later this month for a global retail price of €189 (229 USD, 16,898 INR), and the phone will also be bundled up for the first month with Nokia Essential Wireless Headphones that are being sold for €76 starting from December 18th.
