Nokia announces first commercial standalone 5G industrial-grade private wireless networking solutions
|Nokia this week announced that launch of first commercial standalone (SA) private 5G network for industrial use-cases. The first customer is Sandvik that will use the new private SA 5G solution in its underground mining operations in Tampere, Finland.
The new network solution will be used to “enhance communications and connectivity at the facility, a real-life mining environment where Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology tests, develops and prototypes mining solutions for its customers worldwide.”
The 5G network will be used for faster and more reliable communication, 4K video links between the surface and underground operations, and also for automated mining. Nokia has around 180 private wireless network customers worldwide and introduction of industrial-grade private 5G solutions will surely help increase that number.
