Rumors: Nokia Mobile shifting focus to Europe?
|In September of 2019, we covered a rumor about Nokia Mobile slowing down on the Chinese market and considering a greater push to the European market. Europe was initially by far Nokia Mobile’s biggest market, but the brand slowly started losing ground by trying to compete with Chinese brands in highly competitive markets like India and China.
Yesterday, a well-known member of the Nokia community Hikari Calyx posted that he can confirm that Nokia Mobile’s localization team in China got disbanded, leaving the Chinese users of Nokia phones to wait longer for Android updates. That’s in line with the info from September and today Nokia Anew also posted that Nokia Mobile is shifting focus to Europe.
HMD decided to concentrate all of its capacity in Europe.
Initially, China was the #1 market for the company. Now everything has changed. The company’s focus is on the European market, now will be more relevant design and hardware for us.#nokiamobile #nokia #Europe #Finland #UK— Nokia anew (@nokia_anew) January 24, 2020
According to Nokia Anew’s tweets, “HMD decided to concentrate all of its capacity in Europe”. Only time will show if that really is the case and the first signs of Nokia Mobile’s possible new strategy might show up during MWC2020 in Barcelona next month. We will be there and try to find out if that really is the case and what effect it might have on other markets.
