KaiOS powers 100 million devices and raises 50 million dollars for further development

The smart feature phone OS that powers Nokia 8110 has become the world’s third biggest mobile operating system, according to its owner KaiOS Technologies.  With more than 100 million devices running KaiOS shipped in 100 countries and after receiving another financial investment, the future for KaiOS looks bright.

The latest investment is worth 50 million dollars and comes from “Cathay Innovation (which led the round) and previous investors Google and TCL Holdings,” reports TechCrunch. That makes a total of 72 million dollars raised thus far for the development of the feature phone OS.

The only Nokia Mobile device with KaiOS is the Nokia 8110 4G. A solid feature phone (not really a capable smartphone replacement), that got a bit more usable with the ability to install Whatsapp with the last update.
