Nokia Mobile among biggest adopters of triple+ camera smartphones

Counterpoint Research published an interesting report regarding the triple+ camera trend we see on mobile phones. Counterpoint expects that triple+ cameras will hit 50% penetration of the mobile market in 2021, while also predicting 64MP cameras by the end of 2019, and 100+MP camera in 2020. Huawei and Samsung are leading the adoption of new camera trends.

Regarding HMD Global, the Finnish company found its place on the chart showing the “Triple+ camera penetration by brand” with 3% share, measured in March 2019. In March 2019, HMD had just one triple+ camera phone, the Nokia 9 PureView, while Nokia X71 joined her a month later. This graph could be related to logistics, so maybe the supplies for the X71 and the rumored global variant are counted as well.

Regarding supplies of camera sensors, Counterpoint says that the supply of 5MP sensors remains tight as they are essential for triple+ camera systems. SK Hynix will benefit the most from increased demand, as well as Samsung. Sony is also a key player with 13MP sensors, which they are expanding in production to meet the surging demand.
