Nokia 2.1 also started receiving the January 2019 security update

A device we overlooked, for which the January security update started rolling out is the Nokia 2.1. The Nokia 2.1 is quite a good device for its price point, actually. Things like the 4000mAh battery, big screen and stereo speakers do make it stand out in the budget crowd, with Android Go making sure the phone is usable on low end hardware. If you’re after performance, it’s not for you, but it can serve as an overall good device for the non-demanding users.

The January 2019 update started hitting Nokia 2.1 units 3 days ago, alongside the January updates for Nokia 1 and 2. The changelog shows just the security patch, with no other improvements and is around 60MB in size.

Android Go devices like Nokia 2.1 or Nokia 1 currently run Android 8.1 Oreo GO Edition, but Pie should be available for these devices when ready. The same goes for Nokia 2 that still runs the “standard” Android Nougat, though HMD has been beta-testing Oreo for quite some time.

Thanks everyone for the tips. 🙂
