Official: This is Nokia 8 Sirocco

HMD Global has just announced the Nokia 8 Sirocco, a significant improvement of the current Nokia 8.

This phone is used to be know as Nokia 9, but now it is obvious that Nokia 9 name is reserved for something even more special. The device is designed beautifully with curved edges of the body, where the frame of the housing is made from stainless steal, which 2.5 times stronger than the Aluminum 6000 used to make the super hard Nokia 6 (2017 and 2018). Front glass is made out of 3D Gorilla glass 5 and it is also curved on the edges and covers the back. The best part of the design is that it is just 7.5 mm thick, with edges narrowing to just 2mm. The 2K screen of the device is pOLED and it is 5.5 inch in size.

Nokia 8 Sirocco has 2 cameras on the back of the device. Main camera is super sensitive for taking great night shots and the other is a telephoto camera that will enable 2x lossless zoom. Primary camera has 12 MP sensor made by Samsung with pixel size of 1.4um and apperture of f/1.7. Tele camera has 13 MP Samsung sensor, 1um sized pixels and aperture of f/2.6. Front camera iz a 5MP one, guessed it, also Samsung’s sensor (which is good, because Samsung has decent quality and good logistics), and has 1.4um big pixels. Cameras have ZEISS lenses to create the crisp images. All the Nokia devices with ZEISS lenses will have the Nokia Pro Camera that will enable much batter usage of the phone’s camera, adding more manual controls to the camera UI (just like on Nokia Lumia devices). For recording great sound, the device has 3 highly sensitive microphones and OZO Audio support.

Battery of the device has capacity of 3260 mAh and it can be charged wirelessly using the Qi standard chargers. It goes from zero to 50% in 30 minutes using a wired TypeC charger with QuickCharge support.

Introducing Nokia 8 Sirocco, an ultra-compact powerhouse for the fans

Nokia 8 Sirocco’s premium craftsmanship and effortless performance takes creative storytelling to a whole new level, in ultra-compact style

Barcelona, Spain, 25 February 2018 – HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones, today announced the launch of the Nokia 8 Sirocco. Inspired by the rich design heritage of Nokia phones, the Nokia 8 Sirocco’s elegant design and compact style is the ideal blend of precise craftsmanship and purposeful innovation. Delivering powerful storytelling features including ZEISS optics and perfectly tuned acoustics, the Nokia 8 Sirocco is an ultra-compact powerhouse, and our most beautiful smartphone to date.

Elegant design

To deliver the optimum fusion of strength and beauty, the Nokia 8 Sirocco’s premium curved glass covers over 95% of the phone and seamlessly meets a frame precision milled from a single piece of stainless steel. Its compact style delivers an ultra-slim profile, just 2mm thin at the edge, combining an edge-to-edge curved pOLED 2K 5.5-inch display with smaller bezels and body curves to create its sleek, slim look.

Its steel frame is 2.5 times stronger than 6000 series aluminium, and its 3D Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5 is robust enough to endure life’s everyday knocks. Luxuriously weighted and perfectly balanced, it feels more secure in your hand thanks to the improved grip given by the dual diamond-polished stainless steel frame.

Powerful storytelling

Capture every detail thanks to the Nokia 8 Sirocco’s dual rear sensors with ZEISS optics that combine an ultra-sensitive, wide angle primary camera for impressive low-light performance and a secondary 13MP sensor with 2x optical zoom. Thanks to Pro Camera mode, you can have full manual control over each picture you take, including white balancing, focussing, ISO, shutter speed and exposure correction, helping you take photos like a pro.

Enhanced Dual-Sight, which seamlessly harnesses both front and back ZEISS cameras to give a split screen visual, now delivers an all new Picture-in-Picture view and better integration with Google Photos to deliver the ultimate #Bothie including verbal prompts with Google Assistant: ‘take a picture/video with both cameras’.

And with perfectly tuned acoustics, you can capture crystal clear, distortion free audio on the Nokia 8 Sirocco in even the loudest of places. Featuring Nokia spatial audio, its three high performance microphones capture everything from the quietest whisper to the loudest rock concert[i].

The Nokia 8 Sirocco is optimised and tuned to deliver effortless performance with its 6GB RAM and 128GB storage and the Qualcomm™ Snapdragon® 835 Mobile Platform. It is also the first Nokia Android smartphone to support Qi wireless charging.

Pure, secure and up-to-date, reinforced with Android One commitment

The Nokia 8 Sirocco joins the Android One family, offering a high quality software experience designed by Google. It will stay fresh over time with the latest Google innovations and regular security updates. As with all Nokia smartphones in the Android One program, the Nokia 8 Sirocco will come with a limited number of pre-installed apps so that you’ll get more storage space.

By shipping with Android Oreo™ out of the box, you’ll be able to enjoy the latest features, including Picture-in-Picture for multitasking, Android Instant Apps to discover and run apps with minimal friction, 60 fantastic new emojis and battery-maximising features like limiting background app use.
