February update available for Nokia 8 and 3

It seems that HMD Global started rolling out the monthly Android security patch to their Nokia devices. First phones to receive the February security patch are the Nokia 3 and Nokia 8. The update brings just the patch and is 79.3MB in size for the 3, and 86.9MB for the Nokia 8. To download the update manually, open Settings and search for “System update”.

Mostly Indian users reported about the update, so there is a possibility that the update is only available for Nokia 3 and 8 devices in India. HMD’s Nokia phones sold in India, are also made in India and they differ from the “rest of the world” variants, that also endure a market to market approach in terms of updates.

HMD is also in the process of rolling out official Android Oreo for Nokia 5 and 6 users. Here in Croatia we are still waiting for Oreo. Chinese variants Nokia 6 TA-1000 and TA-1003 can already download Oreo, while the Nokia 8 is currently in Beta Labs with Android 8.1. Android Oreo update is still unavailable, but coming soon for Nokia 3, while the 8.1 version of Oreo should come eventually to Nokia 2.

All in all, HMD takes good care about the whole portfolio, but the lower the price, the more behind in line for update the devices are. I personally find that OK, even though it would ideally be having updates for all at the same time, but that’s not possible, at least at the moment.

Our Nokia 3 (TA-1020) has just received the Google Security Patch for February. Update is not so big, just 79.3 MB.
