May security update out for #Nokia 6. Android 7.1.1 update for TA-1003 variant*UPDATE: Changelog*
|HMD Global continues supporting its only at-the-moment available smartphone Nokia 6 in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Today, HMD Global is pushing the May Security Update to Nokia 6 TA-1000 in China and Android 7.1.1 coupled with the May Security Update for the TA-1003 version of Nokia 6 selling in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
One fundamental difference between TA-1000 and TA-1003 is that the later runs the Google Play version of Android, or the “real” Android with the Google Play Store. On the other hand, TA-1000 runs custom made Android 7.1.1 for China that doesn’t have the Play Store. Apart from the OS, the two version could differ in some minor components, because on our inquiry why the TA-1000 received the update and the TA-1003 did not, HMD said to us that: “This is a chipset support issue and as soon as we can make it the latest OS we will. We are committed to that.”
It’s encouraging to see that HMD keeps their promise of regular security updates, and apart from Pixels and Nexus, Nokia 6 seems to be one of the first, if not the first device that received the May update.
The May Update brings some critical security patches to devices. The full change log can be found at the official Android site here. The May Update for Nokia 6 TA-1003 is 1.85GB big, with the TA-1000 update being smaller, because the TA-1000 already has Android 7.1.1 that is coupled with the May Update for TA-1003.
If you own a Nokia 6, tell us your experience about the updates and the device down below. 🙂
