iQOO Neo 12 launches with 185Hz display, 9,000mAh battery and cooling fan

iQOO has announced the Neo 12 in China, delivering a major performance-focused upgrade over last year’s Neo 11. The new phone brings a faster Snapdragon chipset, a dedicated gaming chip, an active cooling fan, a 185Hz display, and a much larger 9,000mAh battery.
Those improvements come at a cost. The Neo 12 starts at CNY 4,399, or approximately $660, which is about 69% higher than the Neo 11’s original starting price. iQOO has not announced plans to release the phone outside China.
Gaming performance takes center stage
The iQOO Neo 12 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, paired with iQOO’s new Q3 gaming chip. According to the company, the chipset delivers a 20% improvement in CPU performance, while the Q3 chip offers 60% more performance and 40% better energy efficiency than its predecessor.
iQOO says more than 50 games can run natively at 185fps on the device. The phone also supports 2K output at 185fps with super resolution and frame interpolation enabled simultaneously, along with full-scene ray tracing.
For responsive controls, the Neo 12 uses the same touch chip as the iQOO 16. It supports instant touch sampling rates of up to 5,000Hz and multi-finger sampling of up to 500Hz, although those rates are available only in compatible games.
Memory configurations include 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X Ultra RAM, paired with UFS 4.1 storage.
Active cooling and durability
To manage the additional performance, iQOO has added a 17 × 17mm active cooling fan. The fan can move up to 9,770 cubic centimeters of air per minute and offers three speed settings.
It works alongside an 8.2K 3D vapor chamber, which iQOO says improves heat dissipation by 15% compared with the Neo 11. The phone carries IP68 and IP69 ratings, while the fan-cooled design is rated IPX8 and IPX9.
Larger battery, familiar cameras
Battery capacity is one of the Neo 12’s biggest upgrades. The phone includes a 9,000mAh cell, up from 7,500mAh in the Neo 11. It uses fifth-generation silicon anode technology, which iQOO says contains 33% more silicon than the previous model.
Charging remains at 100W wired, with support for bypass charging. That feature can route power directly to the phone during intensive tasks, reducing heat and battery wear.
The camera system sees only modest changes. The Neo 12 features a 50-megapixel Sony IMX921 main camera with a 1/1.56-inch sensor, f/1.88 aperture, and optical image stabilization, joined by an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera. The Neo 11 used a 50MP main camera with the same sensor size and aperture, though it relied on the Sony LYT-700V sensor.
There is no telephoto camera. Selfies are handled by a 16-megapixel front camera, while rear video recording supports up to 8K resolution.
Faster, brighter display
The Neo 12 features a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a 3200 × 1440 resolution and a refresh rate of up to 185Hz, a significant increase from the Neo 11’s 144Hz panel. The screen has a listed pixel density of 514ppi, 2,200 nits of full-screen peak brightness, and a manual maximum of 1,000 nits in professional mode.
iQOO says the new display offers 22% higher full-screen peak brightness, 27% lower power consumption, and 18% better luminous efficiency than its predecessor. A dedicated display driver chip handles 2K output at 185Hz and reportedly uses 30% less power than the equivalent chip in the Neo 11.
Design, software and connectivity
The Neo 12 is available in Swift Shadow Black, Frostblade Blue, and a silver-white Contender finish created in collaboration with the China Academy of Art. The black and blue models measure 8.5mm thick and weigh 225g and 226g respectively, while the Contender version is 8.67mm thick and weighs 229g. All three share dimensions of 163.42 × 75.89mm.
The phone runs OriginOS 7 based on Android 17. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, an infrared blaster, and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. There is no microSD card slot, and the USB-C port supports only digital headphones.
Pricing and availability
In China, the iQOO Neo 12 is offered in five configurations. The 12GB/256GB model starts at CNY 4,399, or about $660, while the 16GB/256GB version costs CNY 4,799, or roughly $720.
The 12GB/512GB and 16GB/512GB variants are priced at CNY 5,099 and CNY 5,499, respectively, or approximately $765 and $825. The flagship 16GB/1TB model costs CNY 6,499, or around $975.
That starting price is CNY 1,800, or about $270, higher than the Neo 11’s CNY 2,599 launch price. The top-end Neo 12 also costs more than the CNY 5,999 starting price of the iQOO 16 in China.
iQOO has not confirmed international availability for the Neo 12. Given that the Neo 11 never launched in India, the new model’s prospects outside China remain uncertain.
