iPhone 18 Pro Heat Discoloration: Will Apple Replace Affected Units?

Barely weeks into the launch of Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, a growing number of early adopters are reporting a frustrating hardware quirk: permanent discoloration on the rear panel.
According to mounting complaints on Reddit, users are finding localized color fading specifically surrounding the device’s triple-camera module. While the defect spans multiple colorways, it appears most prominent on the flagship “Burgundy” finish. Owners have verified that the blemishes cannot be wiped away with microfiber cloths or standard cleaning solutions, ruling out surface-level dirt, skin oils, or everyday grime.
The exact cause remains unconfirmed, but a prevailing theory among affected users suggests that heat dissipation from the camera sensors during intensive use—such as recording high-resolution video or playing demanding games—may be thermally altering the rear finish.
This is not unprecedented territory for Apple. A similar, albeit less widespread, discoloration issue plagued certain orange variants of last year’s iPhone 17 Pro. In those instances, Apple replaced the defective units free of charge. However, the sheer volume of early reports suggests this new anomaly on the iPhone 18 Pro could be a much broader manufacturing or material issue.
Apple has not yet issued a public statement regarding the iPhone 18 Pro’s camera module discoloration. Until the company formally acknowledges the problem, buyers are left waiting to see if this will trigger a widespread replacement program or if the aesthetic flaw will be dismissed.
