Capping off Apple’s “Surprise and Shine” event, the legendary phrase “one more thing” was revived to introduce a device poised to write a new chapter in the company’s history. The iPhone Duo has officially been announced—Apple’s first smartphone featuring an entirely new, foldable form factor.
Design: The Thinnest iPhone in History
As numerous leaks anticipated, the iPhone Duo features a shorter and wider profile, conceptually similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8. Naturally, Apple retained its signature design language, complete with subtly rounded corners.
What is most impressive, however, is the device’s thickness. When unfolded, the iPhone Duo becomes the thinnest iPhone ever made, surpassing even the recently introduced iPhone Air (which measures a mere 5.6 millimeters thick). Apple emphasizes that despite this extreme thinness, the structural integrity and durability of the device have not been compromised.
Dual Screens and Advanced Multitasking
The device’s outer screen measures a compact 5.4 inches, ideal for quick interactions and checking notifications on the go. But the real experience begins upon unfolding, revealing a massive 7.8-inch inner display. For comparison, content on this screen will look significantly larger than on the previous record-holder, the iPhone 18 Pro Max’s 6.9-inch display.
Apple is positioning the iPhone Duo as the ultimate platform for content consumption, gaming, and reading. It is also the first iPhone to enable true multitasking, allowing users to have multiple apps open simultaneously. To support this new format, the upcoming iOS 27 operating system has been heavily optimized—the interface is adapted for the larger canvas, and the app Dock has now been moved to the right side.
Official support for the Apple Pencil is also confirmed, which will turn the Duo into a powerful tool for drawing and note-taking, though this feature will arrive in a later software update.
Under-Display Cameras
The photographic module follows Apple’s proven philosophy, with a few compromises dictated by the folding design. The iPhone Duo features a dual-camera system on the back, while the outer screen houses a standard selfie camera. The biggest innovation lies on the inner display, where Apple has implemented Face ID and a front-facing camera directly beneath the screen itself, ensuring an uninterrupted visual experience without a notch or cutout.
As predicted, the telephoto lens has been omitted; it remains an exclusive feature of the traditional flagships, the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the same mighty A20 chip found in the Pro models, guaranteeing flawless, flagship-tier performance.
