Is Your Samsung Galaxy Watch Eligible for the One UI 9 Update?
Samsung is gearing up to deploy its highly anticipated One UI 9 Watch update to its legacy wearables. However, for early adopters of the company’s Wear OS renaissance, the software roadmap has officially come to an end.
While the stable build of One UI 9 Watch made its official debut this past July alongside the flagship Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, its expansion to older models comes with a notable cutoff. As Samsung prepares to roll out the update following the conclusion of its beta program, the Galaxy Watch 4 series will be conspicuously absent from the roster.
A Promise Fulfilled, Galaxy Watch Lifecycle Completed
When the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic launched in 2021, they marked a pivotal moment for Samsung, debuting with One UI Watch 3 (built on Google’s Wear OS). At the time, Samsung committed to delivering four major operating system upgrades to the lineup.
Over the past four years, the tech giant has honored that pledge, culminating in last year’s One UI 8 Watch update. Because the devices have now exhausted their promised OS upgrades, they are no longer eligible for One UI 9 Watch or any subsequent major software overhauls.

Security Patches Have Also Expired
In addition to maxing out their OS updates, these 2021 wearables were guaranteed five years of security support—a window that officially closed in August 2026.
While your Galaxy Watch 4 will continue to function perfectly well for daily use and fitness tracking, the cessation of security patches and system updates means it will gradually fall behind the curve in both features and digital protection.
For users holding onto their Watch 4, now is a practical time to consider an upgrade. Samsung’s latest premium wearables, the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, not only offer significant hardware improvements but also introduce a new, extended support lifecycle—promising five major OS upgrades and five years of security patches to ensure long-term longevity.
