Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 Announced: Redmi Note 15 Pro+ first to feature it

Snapdragon 7s Gen 4

Qualcomm has officially expanded its mid-range chipset lineup with the introduction of the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4. The new processor builds on last year’s 7s Gen 3 with modest performance gains and several gaming-focused upgrades. While the company has not disclosed which smartphone will debut the chip, reports suggest the first device will be announced very soon.

The Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 keeps the familiar 1+3+4 Kryo CPU configuration on a 4nm process but brings slightly faster clock speeds. The Prime Cortex-A720 core now reaches 2.7GHz, up from 2.5GHz, while the three additional Cortex-A720 performance cores remain at 2.4GHz and four Cortex-A520 efficiency cores at 1.8GHz. Qualcomm estimates around a 7% improvement in CPU performance compared to the previous generation.

Graphics performance also receives a lift thanks to an upgraded Adreno GPU, which promises a similar 7% boost. The chipset introduces Snapdragon Game Super Resolution and Adaptive Performance Engine 3.0, two features designed to deliver smoother frame rates and enhanced visuals for mobile gaming.

On the display side, support has been expanded to include ultra-wide panels with resolutions up to 2,900 x 1,300 at a 144Hz refresh rate. Camera support remains ambitious, with compatibility for sensors up to 200 megapixels, along with 4K HDR10 and HDR10+ video recording at 30 frames per second.

AI capabilities also take a step forward. The improved Hexagon NPU supports popular lightweight models such as Llama 1B and Qwen 1B, enabling real-time translation and more advanced on-device AI tasks. Connectivity options cover sub-6GHz 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, and aptX Lossless audio, while memory and storage are capped at LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 respectively.

The first smartphone confirmed to use the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 is the upcoming Redmi Note 15 Pro+, set to launch in China on August 21. The wider Note 15 Pro lineup is also expected to adopt the new chipset, marking an early showcase of Qualcomm’s latest effort to balance performance, gaming features, and AI integration in the competitive mid-range market.
