Huawei Ships Over 100 Million HarmonyOS Smartphones, Canalys Reports
|Huawei’s HarmonyOS software has surpassed a significant shipping milestone, according to a new report from research firm Canalys. Since the launch of the platform in 2019, the Chinese tech giant has shipped over 100 million smartphones powered by HarmonyOS.
Canalys data reveals that by the end of 2024, Huawei had sold a total of 103 million HarmonyOS smartphones, with 46 million of those units shipped in 2024 alone. This achievement highlights Huawei’s strong presence in the domestic market, especially in China, where HarmonyOS has become an integral part of the company’s growing ecosystem.
The expansion of HarmonyOS isn’t limited to smartphones. Canalys notes that Huawei has shipped 21 million HarmonyOS tablets to date, with 10.5 million of those units sold in 2024. Originally launched in 2019 and rolled out broadly across consumer devices by mid-2021, HarmonyOS now serves as the primary platform for a wide range of Huawei products.
Beyond phones and tablets, HarmonyOS powers wearables, audio devices, smart home equipment, and increasingly, personal computers. According to Canalys, Huawei shipped around 4.2 million PCs in China, including 3.2 million notebooks.
Looking ahead, Huawei is preparing to introduce the next major version of its operating system, HarmonyOS 6.0, later this year. The update is expected to deepen the system’s integration of artificial intelligence and distributed computing. Canalys suggests that Huawei’s tight integration of hardware and software is helping the company position HarmonyOS as a sustainable alternative to global operating systems—at least within the Chinese market.
