Android 15 now available for Nokia G42 5G

Nokia G42 receiving A15 update. Shot with a magnificent HMD Skyline.

Good news for Nokia G42 5G owners. The Android 15 update has started rolling out globally. The update (V3.254) is around 3.28 GB in size and also brings the May 2025 security patch.

Android 15 introduces a few new features like improved privacy controls, partial screen sharing, and notification cooldowns. According to the official changelog, the update should improve system stability, performance, and battery life.

But my experience with Android 15 on the HMD Skyline tells a different story. After updating, Skyline became noticeably slower, with unoptimized system performance, slower app launches, increased lag, and a severely impacted battery life. It’s the complete opposite of what was promised in the update description. On top of that, photo quality has noticeably dropped, with reduced sharpness and detail, as seen in the attached sample photo.

What it will do to the Nokia G42 5G remains to be seen. Hopefully, HMD Global should react quickly with optimization updates to fix these early issues. Until then, it might be wise to hold off on updating if your G42 is running smoothly on Android 14.

Additionally, the FuHMD Fusion (HMD’s budget Android device) is also receiving an update, but just a regular security patch for June 2025, with no major new features included.
