iPad mini 8 Leaks: OLED Display, A20 Pro Chip, and October Launch

Apple is preparing a sweeping hardware overhaul for its smallest tablet, with the eighth-generation iPad mini slated to introduce an OLED display and advanced silicon as early as this October. Based on recent supply chain reports and leaked iOS code, the upcoming redesign will mark a significant evolution for the compact device, distancing it dramatically from the current iPad mini 7.
The most prominent upgrade is the rumored transition from an LCD to an OLED panel. The new display technology will deliver deeper blacks, higher contrast ratios, and richer color accuracy. While rumors suggest a slightly larger screen footprint, it remains unclear whether Apple will bring its 120Hz ProMotion technology to the mini lineup, as conflicting reports indicate the display could remain capped at a standard 60Hz refresh rate.
Internally, the iPad mini 8 is expected to make a massive generational leap by adopting the A20 Pro chip. This silicon upgrade will yield substantial processing gains and provide the necessary neural computing power to support Apple’s advanced Siri AI capabilities debuting in iOS 27.
Apple is also modernizing the tablet’s exterior hardware and ergonomics. Leaked code confirms the front-facing camera will migrate to the longer landscape edge, aligning the mini with Apple’s latest iPad Air and Pro models. Furthermore, the company is reportedly developing a novel vibration-based acoustic system. By eliminating traditional speaker grilles and utilizing a small groove at the top of the display glass, this acoustic redesign could drastically improve the device’s water resistance, potentially offering iPhone-level ingress protection. Physical volume and power buttons will remain positioned on the top edge.
These premium enhancements may come at a cost to the consumer. Following a July price adjustment that pushed the current iPad mini’s base tier from $499 to $599, the integration of an OLED panel and a Pro-tier processor could trigger yet another price increase. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is targeting an October launch for the new device.
