Xiaomi 18 Pro to Feature Super Pixel 2.0 Display with Hardware Privacy
Ahead of its highly anticipated September 23 launch, Xiaomi has detailed a major display upgrade for the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro series. The newly announced “Super Pixel 2.0” screen promises a fusion of flagship-tier visual fidelity and first-of-its-kind hardware-level privacy protection.
Built upon a new M11 light-emitting system, the Super Pixel 2.0 panel utilizes an advanced green light-emitting material that Xiaomi claims boosts luminous efficiency by 20%. This architectural change allows the display to reach a staggering peak brightness of 4,000 nits. Furthermore, the company states that the panel’s full RGB pixel arrangement delivers the visual clarity of a high-end 2K screen while maintaining the lower energy consumption of a standard 1.5K display. As with all manufacturer specifications prior to launch, these efficiency and brightness claims will require independent testing to verify real-world performance.
The most notable addition to the 18 Pro series is the integrated hardware-level privacy protection. While Xiaomi has kept the exact physical mechanics under wraps, previous software leaks point to a feature dubbed “Smart Privacy Display.” This system will reportedly allow users to assign custom privacy viewing rules to specific app categories—shielding a banking application from prying eyes of bystanders while leaving a video streaming app unaffected. The system is also expected to auto-activate dynamically when the device detects sensitive on-screen content, such as password entries, financial transfers, payment screens, and private messages.
Rumors of a localized privacy screen on Xiaomi’s next flagship have circulated since June, but this announcement marks the manufacturer’s first official confirmation of the technology.
Xiaomi will unveil the complete specifications, pricing, and availability for the 18 Pro series during its launch event on September 23 at 19:00 local time in China. The company has not yet confirmed whether the Super Pixel 2.0 display and its integrated privacy features will be available on international models.
