Xiaomi 17 Arrives with Reduced Battery and RAM

The wait for Xiaomi’s latest flagship lineup to cross international borders is nearly over, but a new information suggests that global customers might be receiving a slightly modified version of the hardware that debuted in China late last year. While the Xiaomi 17 series—comprising the standard, Plus, and Ultra models—has been available in its domestic market since December, a fresh leak indicates that the international variant of the standard Xiaomi 17 will arrive with compromises in both battery capacity and memory configurations.
According to documents shared by reliable industry insider Sudhanshu Ambhore, the global edition of the Xiaomi 17 is listed with a 6,330mAh battery. By current industry standards, this is a staggering figure that comfortably eclipses most competitors in the premium segment. However, for those tracking the device’s Chinese specifications, it represents a notable downgrade. The domestic version launched with a massive 7,000mAh cell, meaning the global unit has seen a capacity reduction of roughly 10 percent. Such regional disparities are becoming increasingly common as manufacturers navigate differing safety regulations and internal hardware adjustments for international markets. Fortunately, the charging architecture remains untouched, with the device retaining support for Xiaomi’s blistering 100W wired and 50W wireless HyperCharge technology.

Under the hood, the device will be powered by the cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, ensuring top-tier performance. However, the leak points to another limitation for international buyers: a cap on memory. While Chinese consumers enjoy configurations with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, the global market will reportedly be limited to 12GB of RAM, paired with either 256GB or 512GB of storage. This omission of the highest-tier specification is likely a strategic response to the ongoing global memory component shortage, forcing Xiaomi to streamline its export inventory.
Visually, the lineup is getting a slight refresh for its western debut. The standard Black, Light Blue, and Pink colorways will carry over, but the White model appears to have been shelved in favor of a new Dark Green variant exclusive to international audiences.
The timing of these leaks aligns perfectly with the industry calendar. Xiaomi is expected to officially unveil the 17 series in Europe just ahead of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in early March. Pricing is rumored to start at €999 for the standard 256GB model, while the powerhouse Xiaomi 17 Ultra is expected to command a €1,499 price tag. Despite the battery reduction, Xiaomi remains in a strong position; even at 6,330mAh, the Xiaomi 17 holds a significant capacity advantage over the rumored 5,000mAh battery of its primary rival, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.
