Fairphone 6: The Next Fair Smartphone Arrives Soon
|Dutch company Fairphone is preparing to launch its Fairphone 6, continuing its mission of making smartphones more sustainable, repairable, and ethically produced. The official announcement is expected before the end of June, with June 25 mentioned as a possible launch date.
According to leaked retailer information, the Fairphone 6 will initially be available in 8GB RAM + 256GB storage, with colors including Horizon Black, Cloud White, and Forest Green. Interestingly, it will have a two-part removable back cover, allowing users to mix and match colors.
The modular approach goes even further this time. Alongside the usual replaceable modules , like cameras, battery, USB-C port, speakers, and display, retailers are also listing optional accessories like card holders, lanyards, and rings for better grip. Fairphone might have added a dedicated mounting system on the back for these (maybe that yellow button has that purpose).
As for cameras, the Fairphone 6 will again feature a main camera paired with an ultra-wide shooter, with both the rear and front cameras being user-replaceable.
One notable design change might be the removal of the metal frame seen on the Fairphone 5, as the official image doesn’t show typical antenna gaps, though that’s still speculation. Expected price for this phone with SD 7S Gen 3 is €549.99.
If all turns out as expected, the Fairphone 6 could be one of the most accessible, customizable, and sustainable smartphones out there. It could definitely be the only competitior to HMD, but with a better developed product. At least it seems to have a competitive price for European markets.
