Samsung Risks Fan Backlash by Removing S Pen from future Ultra models

Samsung seems poised to disappoint its loyal fans by potentially ditching the iconic built-in Samsung S Pen from its flagship Galaxy S27 Ultra, set to launch in early 2027. According to the latest rumors from Chinese leaker Setsuna Digital, this decision aims to create space for other internal components, such as a bigger battery or a more sophisticated cooling system.
The potential removal of the integrated stylus slot marks a troubling trend for enthusiasts who have cherished the Note series legacy within the Ultra lineup. If the rumor holds, Samsung might completely abandon integrated S Pen support or resort to an awkward external solution, reminiscent of the Galaxy S21 Ultra, which required a separate case for stylus storage.
This isn’t Samsung’s first controversial move regarding the S Pen. Earlier, the Galaxy S25 Ultra came with a reduced-functionality stylus, lacking key features such as Bluetooth Air Actions. Even the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold7 reportedly sacrifices some Samsung S Pen capabilities to achieve a slimmer design. Such compromises indicate Samsung’s shifting focus towards tablet devices, pushing smartphone users to the sidelines.
While the decision might be justified by improved battery life or performance, it clearly signals the diminishing role of the stylus in Samsung’s flagship smartphones. Should Samsung proceed without the built-in S Pen, it would mark one of the most drastic design shifts ever for the Galaxy Ultra series—an end of an era that many devoted users may find hard to accept.
