“Ask Play About This App” Rolls Out with Gemini AI in Play Store

Google has started rolling out a new AI-powered feature within the Play Store called “Ask Play about this app.” This tool integrates Gemini AI directly into app listings, allowing users to ask questions about apps without needing to leave the Play Store or search for help online.

The feature is now appearing in version 46.1.39-31 of the Play Store and was first uncovered through an earlier APK teardown.

How does it work?

When viewing a supported app’s page in the Play Store, a text box labeled “Ask Play about this app” appears just below the Install button. Users can:

  • Type in their own custom questions, like “How do I use this app?” or “How do I report a cheater in Call of Duty?”

  • Tap on suggested queries, automatically generated based on common user questions.

Gemini AI then responds with helpful answers that may include usage tips, feature explanations, or instructions — making the entire experience smoother, especially for unfamiliar or newly installed apps.

Feature limitations

While the rollout is expanding, not all apps currently support this feature. In fact, some of Google’s own apps — including YouTube and Google Search — are not yet included.

And since the answers are generated by AI, they may not always be perfect. For example, the tool may not accurately tell you how much a subscription costs for a specific app.

Still, the integration of Gemini AI in this context is a powerful step toward improving app discovery and usability across Android.
