Xiaomi 15S Pro Launches with Xring O1 – A Powerful In-House 3nm Processor

Chinese smartphone manufacturers have long aspired to reduce reliance on foreign chipmakers, yet only a few have succeeded in designing in-house processors that can match or surpass leading offerings from Qualcomm and MediaTek. Xiaomi has now joined that elite club with the unveiling of its first flagship-grade chip — the Xring O1, which powers the newly launched Xiaomi 15S Pro.

While the 15S Pro shares much of its hardware with the Xiaomi 15 Pro, the real breakthrough lies inside: the Xring O1 processor, designed by Xiaomi and manufactured by TSMC using its second-generation 3nm N3E process.

Cutting-Edge Architecture and Performance

The Xring O1 features a ten-core CPU layout:

• 2x Cortex-X925 high-performance cores clocked at 3.9 GHz

• 6x Cortex-A725 performance cores running between 1.9 and 3.4 GHz

• 2x Cortex-A520 efficiency cores at 1.8 GHz

This is paired with a 16-core ARM Immortalis-G925 GPU and a 6-core NPU capable of delivering up to 44 TOPS of AI computing power.

Benchmark performance has been impressive. According to Xiaomi, the Xring O1 scored over 3 million points on AnTuTu, outperforming Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite. In Geekbench 6, the chip registered over 3,000 points in single-core tests and 9,000 in multi-core, edging past Apple’s A18 Pro in multi-threaded workloads.

Xring O1 supports a wide range of next-generation standards:

• and a custom-built 3-core Xiaomi ISP for image processing

These features position the chip as a genuine flagship competitor in 2024’s highly competitive mobile landscape.

Xiaomi 15S Pro: Familiar Hardware, New Heart

Beyond the processor, the Xiaomi 15S Pro maintains the premium specs of the 15 Pro model:

• 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED display (QHD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate)

• Triple 50MP rear camera setup (wide, ultrawide, and 5x periscope telephoto)

• 6,100mAh silicon-carbon battery with 90W wired charging support

• Runs Xiaomi HyperOS 2, based on Android 15

The device is offered in Black and Blue color variants. Pricing for the 16GB RAM + 512GB storage configuration starts at CNY 5,499 (~$763), while the 1TB variant is priced at CNY 5,999 (~$832). Open sales have already begun in China. Xiaomi has yet to confirm plans for international availability.

The Xring O1 marks a significant milestone for Xiaomi, both technologically and strategically. With benchmark scores that surpass the most powerful chips currently on the market, the company has demonstrated its ability to design world-class silicon in-house. While it remains to be seen how the chip performs under long-term real-world usage, Xiaomi has undoubtedly made a bold statement with the 15S Pro and its groundbreaking processor.

If successful, the Xring O1 could pave the way for further self-reliant hardware development and inspire more Chinese brands to invest in homegrown chip design at the highest level.
