MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Plus Launches With 15km Range Bluetooth, Smarter AI and more
|MediaTek has officially introduced the Dimensity 9400 Plus, a refined version of its Dimensity 9400 flagship chipset. While it retains most of the original’s core architecture, this upgraded model brings key enhancements in CPU performance, AI capabilities, and connectivity—making it a strong contender against Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite.
15km Bluetooth Range: A Game-Changer in Connectivity
One of the most impressive upgrades in the Dimensity 9400 Plus is the dramatic increase in Bluetooth range, now supporting phone-to-phone connections up to 15 kilometers (9.3 miles)—a tenfold jump from the 1.5 km range in the standard model. This breakthrough paves the way for new use cases, and brands like vivo, OPPO, and OnePlus are already embracing long-distance Bluetooth tech.
Slight CPU Bump, Big AI Gains
In terms of performance, the chipset features a 100MHz speed bump for its primary Cortex-X925 core, now clocked at 3.73GHz. The remaining cores remain unchanged: three Cortex-X4 cores at 3.3GHz and four Cortex-A720 cores at 2.4GHz. It also includes 10MB of system cache and 12MB of L3 cache, offering a modest single-core boost.
On the AI front, MediaTek continues with the NPU 890, now enhanced with Speculative Decoding Plus (SpD+), a feature that predicts multiple token paths in parallel for up to 20% faster large language model (LLM) performance.
The chipset also fully supports on-device deployment of DeepSeek R1 Distill AI models, ranging from 1.5 to 8 billion parameters—though MediaTek notes that while the standard 9400 can also run them, it may not be as efficient.
Battery, Navigation, and More
Another upgrade is support for low-voltage batteries, allowing manufacturers to either extend battery life or shrink battery size for lighter, slimmer devices. In addition, MediaTek has enhanced BeiDou satellite support, offering a 33% faster time-to-first-fix (TTFF) for improved GPS accuracy.
Apart from these updates, the Dimensity 9400 Plus retains all the standout features of its predecessor: an Arm Immortalis-G925 MC12 GPU, Release 17 5G modem with speeds up to 7Gbps, and cutting-edge imaging capabilities, such as Gen-AI Telephoto, full-range HDR zoom, and AI Audio Focus.
When to Expect the First Devices
MediaTek confirmed that phones powered by the Dimensity 9400 Plus will begin launching later this month. While no specific models have been named yet, the company has also shared that Dimensity 9400 series devices will arrive in the U.S. market later this year.
Despite not necessarily outperforming the Snapdragon 8 Elite in raw CPU benchmarks, MediaTek’s flagship chip has already proven capable of outlasting Snapdragon rivals in sustained graphics performance—making it a solid pick for gamers and performance-hungry users alike.
