Nokia G42 5G in India to start at ₹16XXX? Announcement on 11th September [Update]

NokiaNokia Mobile first teased the launch of a 5G smartphone in India on 15th August. Since then, there was no news about it for a few days, but the company picked pace starting 2nd September, when it disclosed that an announcement was due on 6th September. While it still did not reveal the device’s name, it was pretty evident from the teasers that it was the Nokia G42 5G.

It turns out that 6th September was not the launch date but just an announcement date for the company to disclose which device it will launch. Nokia Mobile did not specify the launch date in any of its social media posts today. However, it did update its profile’s cover photo/header image, which reads that the price will be revealed on 11th September.

Interestingly, a comment by ‘Manis Reggae,’ who claims to be a Sales Officer at Nokia Mobile India, on the Facebook post says that the Nokia G42 5G will start at about ₹15,000 ($180, €168) for the 6/128 GB variant and there will also be an 8/256 GB variant priced around ₹17,000 ($204, €191). It is better to consider the prices as rumors for now, and one must wait for the official prices to be announced by the company.

HMD Global is yet to launch the 8/256 GB variant, even in the global markets. However, last month, NokiaCamp broke the news that Nokia Mobile is preparing to launch 256 GB variants of not only the Nokia G42 5G but also the Nokia G22, which will have 6 GB RAM accompanying it.

In its lifetime, HMD Global has launched only one model, i.e., the Nokia X30 5G, which comes with a 256 GB storage variant. Hopefully, this will become more common as a feature in future Nokia smartphones across the spectrum.

Update: It seems that the Nokia G42 5G is more likely to start above ₹16,000 ($192, €180), as Nokia Mobile India put out an X/Twitter poll this morning (7th September) asking people to guess the device’s price between the two choices, ₹16XXX and ₹18XXX.
