Lumia 950 VS Nokia XR20 Camera comparison (Video)

Lumia 950 XL didn’t originally come in green, but my original black back shell didn’t hold up so well

The Microsoft Lumia 950 might not be officially a Nokia, but everything about its camera is as “Nokia” as it gets. 20 Megapixels, PureView branded, OIS, large 1/1.24″ sensor, f/1.9 aperture, and a very similar UX as its Nokia branded predecessors. And while I personally never liked the Lumia 950/950 XL as a phone, there is no denying how fantastic its camera was for 2014. But how does it hold up in 2022? I took it out for a spin, and then decided to compare it against my current daily driver, the Nokia XR20, with its much newer ISP, software tricks, and (not as technically impressive) 48-megapixel camera. Check out the comparison below:

Can’t help but feel very impressed with the output of the Lumia 950 even today. It might not be as “smart” or convenient to use as our current crop of smartphones, but the “purity” of its images is still very admirable. It also happens to be the only PureView camera from that era that is quite easy to live with as a camera phone. Even though the XR20 produces more consumer-friendly images (as demonstrated by MKBHD’s annual blind camera test, where brighter always wins), the Lumia 950’s superior camera sensor still shines. I need to test this against a Pixel 6 / S22 Ultra ? iPhone 13 Pro Max. I don’t think it would beat them, but it will probably give them one heck of a fight.
