HMD smartphone shipments in Q2 2019 are at 2% in CEE region
|Counterpoint just released its report on the smartphone market shipment share for CEE region in Q2 2019. Samsung grew in shipments thanks to its renewed A series and Huawei’s fall due to the China – US trade war. Xiaomi overtook Apple, but the growth was seen also for HMD Global or the Nokia brand. HMD shipped more phone in Q2 which was expected and now has 2% of CEE shipment market share.
This might look excellent but Chinese brands like Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo grew 5% QoQ in Q2 2019. heir yearly growth of 11% is a great example that they are planning on hitting CEE market hard since people are seeking for good spec phones that are more affordable.
CEE is an important market that accounts for 5% of the global smartphone shipments and 37% of the total smartphone shipments in Europe. HMD should focus more on this market, especially now when Nokia is the only European brand alive. OK, Alcatel is there also, but with TCL going on its own, Alcatel won’t last long.
