Android Q developer preview Beta 5 available for Nokia 8.1

After more than 2 months of releasing the last Android Q build for the Nokia 8.1, Nokia Mobile today announced the availability of a new preview build based on the latest Android Q Beta 5 released by Google last month.

The happy news was announced by HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas via Twitter, mentioning the ability to summon Google Assistant by swiping as the future coming with this build. The notes from the official webpage follow down below.

We are pleased to announce that the Beta 5 Developer preview build is now available for sideload (V4.070). This release also includes the July 2019 Security Patch. At the moment we are only able to offer an upgrade from Android Q Beta 3 to Android Q Beta 5. An upgrade from Android 9 Pie to Android Q Beta 5 is in the works and will be released shortly, so stay tuned!

Please note, we are unable to offer the Android developer preview builds to devices in China, Russia, or to certain network providers.

The program currently supports models TA-1119, TA-1121 and TA-1128. To check your device is compatible, go to Settings > System > About Phone > Model & hardware.

  • If you see reference to “00WW” and your locale is not Russia, then you’re good to go.
  • If you see reference to “00CN”, or if your locale is Russia, then please do not use these builds.

In general, we don’t recommend installing beta versions of software on your phones, especially if the phone in question is your main device. If there are enthusiasts already running the new build, we would like to hear from you in the comments how Q performs on the Nokia 8.1. 🙂
