The stock price of HMD’s display partner Pixelworks surged 6.5% after Nokia 7.1 announcement

The central component of Nokia 7.1 is certainly the device’s screen. The 5.84-inch notched LCD display with FullHD+ resolution comes with PureDisplay Technology, supporting HDR10, which is a rarity on midrange devices. The display’s technology and the ability to convert SDR to HDR quality is something that HMD Global and a company called Pixelworks brought to Nokia 7.1.

In a press release published today, Pixelworks announced that the Nokia 7.1 is the latest device that joins an exclusive group of Devices using their “latest Iris PX8418 mobile processing chip to deliver the highest quality video performance.” That’s Pixelworks 4th generation Iris processing chip allowing HDR capabilities and new SDR2HDR Technology that converts SDR content to HDR quality content in real time.

Pixelworks describes the rest of Nokia 7.1’s screen attributes like this:

  • 1 million:1 dynamic contrast ratio

It’s interesting that the stock price of Pixelworks went up (6.5%, after hours) after the Nokia 7.1 announcement, which is in fact normal, because Pixelworks got a new client, and a one that is in top 10 smartphone manufactures Worldwide, meaning sales increase.

Don’t know about you guys, but the more I look at the Nokia 7.1, the more attractive the device seems, especially the silver-copper combination. Some things I don’t like, but I’m really excited to try it, because it looks like a well-rounded device.
