TrendForce: Nokia’s total production volume in 3Q estimated to remain flat as in 2Q18

Market research company TrendForce posted their predictions about the smartphone market for the third quarter of 2018. The third quarter includes months July, August and September and we already passed half of Q3. TrendForce expects the volume of smartphone shipments to grow in Q3 compared to Q2 2018 by 6%.

About HMD’s smartphone performance, TrendForce states this:

Nokia has a constant growth of smartphone production volume over the past quarters after building the partnership with FIH Mobile. Nokia not only benefited from the bargaining power of FIH Mobile, but also made use of the long-established reputation and distribution channels of its own. For the second quarter, Nokia’s total production volume is about 5.2 million, and the number in 3Q is estimated to remain flat as in 2Q18.
Counterpoint Research stated that HMD’s smartphone “shipments” in Q2 2018 were around 4.5 million, while TrendForce ranks “production volume” at 5.2 million. We don’t know how Counterpoint or TrendForce get their estimates, so the safest way is to place HMD’s Q2 smartphone performance at 4.5 to 5.2 million units. The report is interesting and I recommend it for reading. The link is at the end of the article.
TrendForce also made predictions for the whole 2018 half a year ago, when the Company stated that it expects HMD to surly grow in 2018 with shipments exceeding 20 million units in 2018. That report can be checked here.
