Even though we are in January 2018, HMD’s lowest end smartphone, the Nokia 2, received today Google’s security patch for December 2017. According to NPU, the update is available in India and other markets as well, but, as always, it takes a few days (or more) until all variants in all market receive the update. The latest update for Nokia 2 is 88MB in size, so it’s just the security patch, without any other improvements.
More improvements for Nokia 2 are scheduled to arrive with Android 8.1 update. HMD’s CPO Juho Sarvikas told via Twitter that Nokia 2 will go directly to Android 8.1, that will bring a lot of memory management features from Android Go, skipping the update to Android 8.0 other Nokia smartphones will do.
In my opinion, HMD is doing a great job keeping all of their devices up to date, and is one of a few manufacturers that push security updates every month. Not to mention upgrading the whole lineup on Android 8 Oreo.
