Android 8.1 update started for Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 (2017)
|HMD Global started rolling out the Android 8.1 update for last year’s Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 devices in some regions of the world. At the moment, mostly users from India are reporting that the 8.1 update is available for their devices, but there are reports from other countries as well. As always, the rollout goes in phases, so not everyone will receive Android 8.1 at the same time, but over the period of few days for most devices it should be available. For our Nokia 6 and Nokia 5, no update is available at the moment.
For Nokia 6, the update is around 930MB in size, while for the 5 the size is around 860MB. The official changelog goes like this:
- Battery Saving Navigation Buttons
- Revamped Power Menu
- New Settings Menu
- Bluetooth Battery Percentage
Right now, all Nokia 2017 smartphones, apart from the Nokia 2, are running Android Oreo or having a Nokia Beta Labs trail of Android Oreo (Nokia 3). Nokia 8 for quite some time on Android 8.1, and now the update has started for the 5 and 6. The new Nokia devices, Nokia 1, 6.1, 7 plus and 8 Sirocco will come with Android 8.1 out of the box. The mentioned Nokia 2 should receive Oreo (Android 8.1 directly) right after Nokia 3, hopefully soon.
If you’ve received the update, do tell us how the process went and for which device in the comments down below. I have to say, HMD is doing a great job keeping their last year’s devices up to date, especially compared to other Android manufacturers.
