RedMagic 12 Pro Global Launch: Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and 8400mAh Battery

RedMagic 12 Pro

Three weeks after debuting in China as the RedMagic 12 Pro+, the gaming powerhouse has officially reached international markets under the RedMagic 12 Pro moniker. While the global variant retains the vast majority of its bleeding-edge hardware, it arrives with a significantly steeper price tag and slightly dialed-back charging capabilities compared to its Chinese counterpart.

The most immediate change for international buyers is the cost. In the US, the base model featuring 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage starts at $949. The mid-tier 16GB/512GB configuration is priced at $1,049, while the maxed-out 1TB variant reaches $1,199. European pricing follows a similar trajectory at €899, €999, and €1,199, respectively. This represents a steep €200 base price increase over last year’s RedMagic 11 Pro, which launched at €699. Additionally, the brand has discontinued the ultra-premium 24GB RAM tier for this generation. Buyers can choose between two transparent finishes: Nightfreeze (black) and Subzero (silver).

To bring the device to global markets, RedMagic implemented a few hardware compromises. The international RedMagic 12 Pro drops from 120W wired charging to 80W, though it retains both wireless and bypass charging support. Furthermore, the touch response rate on the dedicated gaming shoulder triggers has been reduced from 700Hz to 520Hz.

Despite these downgrades, the phone’s endurance hardware is formidable. The device packs a massive 8,400mAh battery—a 12% capacity increase over its predecessor—yet manages to shave its overall thickness down to 8.5mm from 8.9mm.

Under the hood, the RedMagic 12 Pro is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, working in tandem with a proprietary RedCore R5 gaming chip and a G1 display processor. It runs on RedMagic OS 12 (based on Android 17), which integrates Google’s Gemini AI, built-in PC game emulation, and native Steam library access via the X-Gravity gaming center.

Thermal management is handled by the AquaCore Cooling System 3.0. This intricate setup includes a dual-loop liquid cooling system with RGB lighting, Liquid Metal 4.0, and a vapor chamber with 15% more surface area. It is driven by a new micro-pump that delivers 130kPa of pressure—an 85% boost over the previous generation—while drawing just 20mW of power. An active internal cooling fan capable of 25,500 RPM expels the heat.

Visually, the device features an uninterrupted 6.85-inch 1.5K OLED display manufactured by BOE. Utilizing ultra-thin 0.96mm bezels and a 16MP ninth-generation under-display selfie camera, the screen remains entirely free of cutouts. The panel pushes a blistering 185Hz refresh rate, a 5,000 nits peak brightness, and an extreme 5,000Hz touch sampling rate. RedMagic claims it is the only manufacturer currently delivering this high of a refresh rate on a true full-screen, under-display camera design. A 3D ultrasonic fingerprint reader is also embedded directly beneath the glass.

For traditional photography, the rear array features a 50MP primary sensor equipped with optical image stabilization, flanked by a 50MP ultrawide lens.

Durability and connectivity round out the flagship package. The chassis carries both IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance, with the active cooling fan’s exhaust port holding its own dedicated IPX8 rating. The device is further equipped with Dolby Atmos stereo speakers, an X-axis linear motor, an IR blaster, NFC, Wi-Fi 7, and a high-speed USB 3.2 Gen 2 port.
